A boldly-patterned accent wall can give your entryway a wow factor to impress your guests, or create an infinitely Instagram-able photo opportunity in your living room. Take your tailgate parties and holiday get-togethers to the next level, all in an afternoon. This is a particularly good option if you’re renting and can’t make any permanent changes.
Texture is key!
Cooler weather means it’s time to get cozy. The quickest change you can make in terms of fall home decor is to switch out throw pillows on your seating and pile on the luxe throws. It’s sumptuous and comforting to the eye, sure—but it’s also ultra-functional to have blankets on-hand for weekend movie nights and evenings in the backyard with your favorite craft beer. A cable-knit throw blanket large enough to cover your chair can create an instant change to your color palette.

Switch out summer blooms for more autumnal arrangements—think burgundy, aubergine, oranges, yellows and accents of wheat. Spray-painting your pumpkins packs an even bigger punch. Go chic with all-white, or a little more flashy with metallic silver or gold. You can paint them to match your favorite team’s colors (though around here, the pumpkin’s natural hue might be pretty close to your team’s color already) or dream even bigger—the sky’s the limit!
Get crafty!
Nothing brightens your windowsill like glass bottles catching the afternoon light. You don’t need anything more complicated than single branch of berries for an arrangement that would look just as nice on a dresser or bookshelf. Plus, it’s another reason to wander through your favorite thrift shop! Mix and match colors and shapes for more visual interest.
If you’ve got time for a larger project, you can replicate a chandelier with leaves instead of lights. Drill a 1⁄4-inch hole in a few canning jar lids. Pull a separate piece of rope through each hole, then tie a knot under each lid. Place single leaves in jars, and tightly secure lids. Tie rope pieces together and hang from a heavy-duty ceiling hook. (You can leave this up for Christmas if you sub out the leaves for mica snow, bottle-brush fir trees or miniature presents. Add LED-powered fairy lights if you’re really looking to amp up the effect!)
